Karcher Hotel: 1932

Postmarked 8/24/32; found at a flea market, and used for a permanent display that I donated to the Karcher Artspace residents that now live in the building. This now hangs in the Karcher 405 Gallery, which was the hotel lobby.

The two lobby views are colorized versions of the monochrome images, probably taken when the hotel opened in the late-20s, that 4240 Architects sent me following my original shoot of the building in August 2011, when it was still abandoned. 4240 is the firm that restored the Karcher into the Artspace Lofts, that opened in 2013 after decades of abandonment.

The message on the back reads:

"Visitors and Shoppers to Chicago will stop here.

Three Electric Limited Trains leave hourly for the

Chicago Loop. Some have Parlor and Dining car ac-

commodations. Comuters tickets furnished at cost.

Room rates, single: $2.00, $2.50, $3.50

Room rates, double: $3.00, $4.00, $5.00

Follow the Beacon Light to the Karcher Hotel"
