Fly away, Lakehurst
At Scoop Unplugged I chatted with my friend Will, who runs the Water Street Gallery on the corner of Genesee and Water, and I found out the next show for the July ArtWauk was on Waukegan history. Without any hesitation I offered the Lakehurst sign for the gig (I needed it out of the way so we could finally repaint my room, anyhow)... but getting it there was half the fun.
The sign measures 6x6', and my room is on the second floor. The sign is impossible to navigate through the stairs, so the only option is to literally throw it out the window, which is exactly what was about to happen, here. Going-out diagonally, there's maybe an inch or less clearance between the corners; one person pushes it out from the house, and my brother and I stand on the porch roof to flip the sign horizontally, where it can then be slid on some towels down a fully-extended 60-foot ladder to the ground. I swear, I shot video of the process but I'll be damned if I can find it now.
