Night Light

La Rochelle fortifications by night, the Lantern Tower on the left.

The Lantern Tower is the largest of the three towers of La Rochelle's seafront. It is 55 meters high and consists of two parts. Its base is a cylinder 25 meters high and more than 15 meters in diameter. It is dominated by an octagonal spire, four of the eight sides of which are pierced with flamboyant, three-lobed windows. Each rib is furnished with hooks.

The history of the fortifications of La Rochelle dates back to the 13th century AD, ending in the 20th century. The best-known defense elements today are the medieval towers at the entrance to the Old Port , emblems of the city and place of tourist attraction.
