This one started off as a colour, namely Dark Turquoise, I had a few bricks from a set I bought to part out and had a vague recollection that Mercedes-Benz made some Unimogs in a similar colour - yes! Another Unimog.
Next up, I was chatting with a friend about what I could build next and we agreed it would be cool to do something with machinery and details. I love building shiny cars, but fiddly details are always fun and look great.
So, a Unimog build with machinery and some other fun details. As soon as I had decided on a Hiab crane I turned my attention to what a Unimog could be picking up with it. My thoughts drifted to some nearby woodland I walk through where some light logging has recently been done and there are stacks of logs waiting to be collected.
The finished build uses Lego’s very nice log system plus a Dark Turquoise ‘80s Unimog with a custom logging bed, mid-mounted Hiab crane (complete with log-grabber) and the necessary outriggers to keep it stable when lifting. Up front I added some winching and lifting gear to reinforce the industrial chic.
