The pond (Sanssouci Palace Park)
An evening shot near the Roman Baths in Sanssouci Palace Park in Potsdam, Germany. This is an artificial carp pond called Maschinen-teich (Engine Pond). Several sources say its name derives from the steam engine that (beginning in 1827) was used to keep the water flowing here and in the park generally. Another source says the first Prussian steam engine was used to build it. [SNY01423_lr_2000]
