Purple Sandpiper
17.01.2025 - New Brighton Marina . This place has always been as long as I remember a roosting spot for small numbers of Purple Sandpipers at High Tide. They seem to get less in number each year , as with many species and its not ideal for photographs ,but always a pleasure to see them so close to home ,without having to go to Rhos in Wales . I found 4 in the flocks of Turnstone ,Dunlin and Redshank.In this picture one asleep and one to front right alert.Amongst the other waders the purple colour really does stand out.
