Poppies covering the ground at the entrance to the Thiepval Memorial. Each poppy has a message on it sent in memory of one of the multitude who perished during the battle of the Somme. One of those poppies was sent by my mother for her uncle, Dan Kennedy, who died nearby in 1916 at the age of 19.
