Fields of Friends
The really great thing about the Flick is that unlike other social networking sites, everyone on here has something in common, photography. So meeting up with people on the “dreaded internet” at least has a common purpose, usually. This site has been both very good to me and very bad for me, but I think I can say with a clear conscious now that the people I meet or intend to meet on here genuine people, with real lives offline as well.
Mary Clark who lives a few miles from me suggested I visit this field of flowers before they’re harvested by the grower. Her sister was even nice enough to drive down there yesterday afternoon to make sure there were still some flowers there, so I rushed over there at 7:30, but some traffic got me there after the sun had gone over the mountains. I bracketed 9 shots and used one for the foreground, and one for the sky. Simple. And showing this to a client, it looks like I might return here tonight or this week for a maternity shoot.
Another friend is going to meet me in Venice after I fly into Milan next month to shoot a wedding out there. She’s going to take me to a concert in a castle, show me around Venice and let me crash at her place. While another contact on here has become a great friend, helping me out with weddings and taking some work off my hands so I can spend more time with my kids. Now she’s booking her own weddings and letting me second shoot with her! And of course there are several other stories, too many to count.
So what I’ve found here is that being a friend is just as important as having a friend. I hope I can or will be able to help all of you in one way or another.
