Ready for fire support (and self-defense)
The Mil Mi-31 "ЛАСКА" (Weasel) was designed to succeed to the Mil Mi-28 "Havoc" in the late 80's. Compared to the Kamov Ka-50 "Hokum", it's two-seated for more efficiency in fire support. It's lighter than the Mi-28, faster (Speed is vital in the face of small arms, rockets and heat-seeking missiles) and features new missiles/avionics suite and a 37 mm cannon under the nose. It never entered servicing because of problems with its enclosed composite fantail tailrotor and the roll out of the more modern Kamov Ka-52/Mi-28N .
