The Meeting-of-the-Waters - Brown & Clear - Yoho National Park

The road, with it's barricade, are just out of sight to the left of the image. I have driven this road many times, but never stopped at this spot. I'm glad I did even if only by chance

The Meeting-of-the-Waters is a confluence of two streams. The stream on the left originates in the area of a glacier, about 20 km away to the north. The glacier has been grinding at the mountain for some time, but is now retreating. The water is high at this time of the year and the stream is carrying sediment from the glacier which imparts a brown colour to the water.

The stream which comes in from the right hand side of the image comes from the east. The continental divide is only a few km to the east. There is no glacier in this direction, the water is from melting snow, so it is clear and free from sediment.

The flow of water is about as high as it gets. My tripod and I are positioned on two rocks in the flowing water. The photograph does not convey the full atmosphere of being in this place. For that, you need to turn on the sound! Use your imagination.
