A loaded Herzog ballast train heads down the Wisconsin & Southern line north of Madison. The train of famed "Pink Lady" ballast was loaded at the pit at Rock Springs - a long time provider of the pink quartzite rock to the Chicago & Northwestern Ry. Trios of UP SD40-2s were the norm on these ballast trains that loaded on the WSOR.
