DWP 5909 North on BN, train 142, Coon Creek, Minnesota; June 10, 1989_
A precursor to the CN getting to Chicago was the operation of a pair of trains between the BN Northtown Yard at Minneapolis and CN's Symington Yard at Winnipeg. CN subsidiary Duluth Winnipeg & Pacific connected the BN and CN between Duluth and the Canadian border at Ranier/Fort Francis. So DW&P SD40s were in the pool as well.
Here one unit each from the pooling roads nears BN's Northtown Yard outside of Minneapolis.
The CN later went on to operate trains between The Twin Ports through the Twin Cities and on to Chicago via BN haulage rights. Then wanting a route of their own to Chicago from the northwest they acquired the Wisconsin Central in 2001.
