NS 6129 North local V24, Richmond, Virginia_

Like the Southern Railway before it, NS has a small presence in Richmond. Richmond is surrounded by CSX track as former roads Atlantic Coast Line, Seaboard Coast Line, Chesapeake & Ohio and Richmond Fredericksburg & Potomac lines radiate out of the city. For the NS, Richmond is mid-point of a branch line that breaks off the Norfolk to Roanoke main at Burkville and heads northeast through Richmond to a dead end at West Point - a distance of 100 miles.

Crews are based at a small yard in Richmond along the James River. Most days find 3 crews working. First is a yard crew that services a small customer base at Richmond. Two turn crews are next. One makes a turn to the end of the line at West Point where a huge WestRock paper mill is the main traffic generator. The other turn crew connects traffic to/from the outside world by going to Crewe, Virginia located on the main line.

Here symbol V24 starts their trip to West Point and is seen crossing the drawbridge over the James River and Kanawha Canal. The downtown skyline of Richmond is seen in the distance. The bridge is no longer functional in it's intended purpose to allow the passage of canal traffic. To the extreme right is the steelwork of the C&O, now CSX, viaduct along the James River.
