"Dogs' lives are too short. Their only fault, really."

~Agnes Sligh Turnbull

My heart hurts! Our beautiful gentle giant, Biko, died last night. We had some concerns yesterday, took him to the emergency hospital and he went pretty quickly. We were glad that he didn't have to suffer long.

Biko came into our lives in 1997 when we moved to San Antonio. He was our first "child" and will always be remembered with his sweet disposition and gentle nature! He was named after my friend Maggie's dog (also Biko) who was also a gentle giant. Little did I know that when he picked his name, the personality would follow.

Biko brought great joy to our lives... from when he was little and refused to get into our truck to go on rides. Even when we would pick him up, he would splay his legs to try and avoid being put in the crate.

He rarely barked, but brown uniforms would set him off! (the poor UPS guy!) He grew to be a BIG dog and had a bark (when he would bark) that matched. When he was younger and we would run together, I always felt safe with him by my side!

He learned early on that following commands brought treats... and was very eager to please! He could do simple tricks and walk long walks without being on the leash. He loved nothing more than to be petted... and would make sure that his head would find your hand - even if that wasn't your plan. He was great with kids and other dogs and never met a stranger!

He traveled with us, slept with us, played with us, and we loved him and our lives were enriched with him in it!

Even though he was 11, he left us way too early!

We miss him terribly.
