Dean Ambrose
Golden Boy
Looking back on his time in the WWE (2011 – present) he’s won a lot more gold than I first realized. IC title twice, USA title once, world heavyweight championship once, MITB once as well as being current tag team champion with his aforementioned brother, Seth Rollins. That’s a rather impressive achievement given the short time within the company. With that in mind, surely Mattel will knock the ball out of the park when it comes to replicating one of the WWE's biggest stars in figure form. Well, let’s take a look and see.
Basic Attire
Before I even took this figure out of the packaging, I knew it looked off. The sleeves (or at least lack there-of) just makes him look so…plastic. I know that sounds dumb given that he actually is, but his big rounded shoulders just look so…ridiculous. What makes it worse is when you realize that the t-shirt he’s wearing HAD sleeves. Yes, they were short, but not tank top short. I don’t know what Mattel was doing, but they really dropped the ball on this one. His lower half makes up for this though with a painted belt buckle and a nice shade of Jeans. Other than that, what more can be said?
Face Scan
The good thing about this is his face. Poor Dean has one of those faces that just don't come translate well to plastic. I know he has a habit of sticking his tongue out a lot, but it just doesn't look right (in figure form) Mattel also has trouble replicating his 'lunatic fringe' and beard. This one (though not perfect) is definitely his best yet. If any of you custom figure makers want to update your Ambrose, I would definitely go with using this head.
Conclusion
This is a pretty uninspiring release. It's generic looking, boring, and inaccurate. It doesn’t help that he wears jeans and a t-shirt to the ring, but Mattel could have at least made an accurate portrayal.
