When their sons were grown and had left home to help with the war effort (WWII), my grandparents could no longer manage their large farm. They moved to an apartment in Grand Rapids, where my grandpa found work at this factory. A few years later, my mom worked there too, but just briefly. During my childhood, I heard mention of this place many times. But I never saw the building until three years ago, when I was in Grand Rapids driving around the city aimlessly and chanced upon it. McInerney no longer occupies it, but the structure remains.
