Pelican Spa

Truth or Consequences, New Mexico sits above a natural hot springs, and several hotels in town tap into them, including the Pelican Spa. During our two nights in TorC (as it's called), Jenni and I stayed at the Pelican. It was our one bit of extravagence during two weeks of low-end accommodations. Every room is painted differently (in bright Caribbean colors), and filled with art and antique furniture. We took one of the rooms with its own hot tub. With a three-inch spigot, the giant concrete tub -- big enough for two -- fills in a jiffy. I can't tell you what a luxury it is.

This is the great room, for the use of all guests. There's a TV, a stereo, some reading material, and terrific mid-century modern furniture. Owner Sid Bryan is not only a savvy entrepreneur, but an art enthusiast. He's filled the spa with art done by local artists, of which there are many. Bryan also owns two art galleries in town.
