Day One Hundred Two

Neurofibromatosis (NF) is a genetic disorder in which the nerve tissues grows tumors which may cause serious damage to the nerves and tissue. This affects all neural crest cells. Where you have a nerve a tumor may grow.

In addition to the painful tumors that may grow which will require surgery to be removed (if possible), 50% of people with NF have learning disabilities and/or develop seizures.

There is no cure only therapy to help ease the pain.

Why bring this up? Because Mouse Girl has NF. For the first year of her life we were in and out of the hospital, dealing with her infantile seizures. She sees a neurologist regularly and probably had more MRI/CAT scans done than most people 5 times her age.

Want to learn more about NF, MTV's True Life is airing I Have NF tonight. Watch it, torrent it, share it. Do what it takes so that people become aware of what NF is and that it needs to be stomped out.

Looking to get involved check out the Children's Tumor Foundation or hit me up via Flickr mail and I'll point you in the right direction.
