Class 23 - Germany's Last New Steamers
The Deutsche Bundesbahn 23 Class (2-6-2) was the last new steam locomotive class built for DB. They were designed for light passenger duty and to replace the old 38 Class 4-6-0s. Between 1950 and 1959, 105 23s were built. The last one was retired in 1976. Eight of these locomotives are housed at various German rail museums.
I never saw very many of this class, but it seemed there was always one or two at Heilbronn, where the 23 061 was filmed on February 10, 1968, under the wires near the main station (Hauptbahnhof).
