Dhanushkodi
Dhanushkodi is a small place about 19 kms from Rameshwaram, its nice to get of at the main bus stand and walk about five Kms to the site of the ruins, its quite a tough walk, the beach is beautiful to look at but its impossible to look at anything without sunglasses, the sand hits the exposed parts of the body like little animals with sharp teeth.
the ruins are facinating, most of the town was wiped away in a cyclone in 1964 a train load of passengers were also taken away by the sea.
it is almost impossible to live there now because of its close proximity to the rough sea and constant shower of sand. But some people still live there, fishermen and those who carter for the tourists there, and they say its their land and they won't go away.
