The Shot That Almost Wasn't

This isn't the greatest shot, but I am posting it so I can tell the story.

I usually don't take I-290 home, but today I did and I passed under a westbound CP train. I called Munger Mark to alert him of the westbound with the golden light hour at hand. Interestingly, I had passed Mr. Munger who was going the opposite way on I-290. Anyway, I headed west on the Elgn-O'Hare and when I crossed the CP, I had gotten ahead of him. (Would have been a nice shot off the expressway bridge, but I was going the wrong direction). By the time I got on to Lake St., he went past me. I continued on to Elgin, and found I had beat him since he had to meet a scoot at Bartlett. Remembering I had brought my camera with me, I decided to shoot the train. I pulled in at B-35 (RR Membership has its privileges) and grabbed my camera as I heard the train whistle for IL Rte 31. I turn the camera on, and nothing. The battery!! I look in the bag, there it is! I grab it and start to install it. The battery cover falls off! No worries, I'll GTS and replace it later. The battery cover has a contact on it. The camera won't turn on without it. I go back for it and try to snap it in place. The train is now going over Gifford Rd. Snap, success! The camera turns on. No time to adjust the ISO, and fumble the shutter speed to 1/250th, raise the camera, and snap! I then noticed that the ubiquitous CP AC4400 leading was once used on the Holiday Train as evidenced by the residue left from where the lights were attached to the unit. The better shot would have been on the other side of the signal box, but I'm just glad I managed to GTS and Mark didn't!
