Is That The Gulf Coast Special?
Both the ACL and SAL served Fort Myers, FL, and both stations still stand. The ACL depot is now the home of the Fort Myers Historical Museum. On the former trackside of the depot sits the observation car, Esperanza. There is also a concrete milepost and a semaphore signal (missing its blade). In front of the depot is a concrete planter with the letters ACL embossed into it.
I discovered this quite by accident. While driving downtown, following the Seminole Gulf RR, I noticed a wye track on the GPS along Union St. As I turned the corner I mentioned to my wife, "I bet the depot once stood in this area". She replied, "Like that one over there?"
