Speeding Boat
West Coast Adventure on the packet freighter M. V. Frances Barkley, Port Alberni to Bamfield British Columbia and back.
A speeding boat about to pass behind the M. V. Frances Barkley as we thread our way towards the Broken Islands Group. The islands are part of the Pacific Rim National Park, desolate and secluded at the mouth of British Columbia's Barkley Sound. The group of small islands is known internationally for awesome kayaking, camping, and other wilderness activities. On the way to Bamfield, the ship stopped at Sechart Lodge to pick up a couple of passengers and four more with their kayaks along the way. To drop off the kayakers, the ship's crane hoists a platform into the water with the kayaker sitting in the kayak, and he or she just paddles away. If being picked up, they paddle onto the platform, and then they are hoisted up onto the ship while sitting in the kayak. As we travelled through the Sound, numerous bears, seals, sea lions, and humpback whales were seen. The profound natural beauty all around us made the journey unforgettable.
