The Diary of a Hotel Addict
W Hong Kong: Yasumichi Morita's Room
© yohanes.budiyanto, 2009
Late last year, I visited the brand spanking new W Hong Kong and was excited to learn that there are 2 designs for the guest rooms by 2 designers: Nicholas Graham and Yasumichi Morita. The layout of the rooms are exactly the same, but what distinguished them is the design of the feature headboard and the bathroom's mirror wall.
Graham opted for a more contemporary look, and chose to use interesting and dynamic rhythm of lineworks; whereas Morita opted for a more chic and playfull take on the graphics, adorning the full height wall with scores of butterflies. Having stayed at both versions now, I personally like Graham's design as it is more contemporary yet the subtlety of the design merges well with the rest of the room design.
I said it before, and I say it again: W's beds are made in heaven and they feel like heaven... It certainly gives Westin's Heavenly Beds a run for its money. I personally think that W Hotel provided me with a more comfortable accommodation than the overrated and overly-expensive Peninsula.
