Seeking Nectar

This is my best hummingbird shot to date... I was in the local arboretum, walking around looking for some nice flower shots. But didn't see anything I liked. Out of the corner of my eye, I spotted a hummingbird heading up about 60 feet to a tree branch. Too far for the macro lens(105mm) I had on my camera, I debated whether to go back to the car for my 500mm set up. I decided to give it a shot and walked the half mile back to the car and returned to where I spotted the hummer. But of course, she wasn't in the tree anymore. I stood there in the hot sun for about 20 minutes, trying to decide what to do, when I turned around and spotted this female ruby throated hummingbird about 40 feet away. I started shooting and she decided to make it easy on me and came right to me!! This was shot literally 7 feet in front of me!!! Boy, was I glad I trekked back to the car for my long lens for this close up!! Because the macro lens still would not have been sufficent to get this shot. The bird itself is about 3 inches in length.
