France, Paris, place de la bastille and column of July
Place de la Bastille is a square in Paris, a symbolic place of the French Revolution, where the old fortress of the Bastille was destroyed between July 14, 1789 and July 14, 1790. Louis-Philippe decided in 1830 to build the July column, already planned for 1792, but this time to commemorate the Trois Glorieuses revolution. Place de la Bastille is the regular venue for various fairs, concerts and markets. The Third Republic, by formalizing the French national holiday in 1880, made it a place of republican demonstration. It is very popular on Friday and Saturday evenings by young people from the Parisian suburbs for its many cafes, restaurants, cinemas and nightclubs.
