the belfry of the Gare de Lyon
The peculiarity of the Gare de Lyon remains the belfry 67 meters with clock faces on all four sides. Built between 1895 and 1902, the monumental clock by Paul Garnier and has an area of 140 m2 of stained glass. To reach the top you go up a spiral staircase of 400 steps.
Until 1929, the dials are illuminated from within by 250 oil burners. They were of course then replaced by electric lighting. The clock still has its original mechanism is motorized and completely modernized in 2005 after a period of 6 years following the 1999 storm and is synchronized with the time signal transmitted by France Inter in long waves with a box behind a the faces of the clock. Regularly we hear the noise of the moving needle, it's pretty impressive.
