Bolide français 4402
March 28, 2007 – During the last preparation days for the “official” World Speed Record on Rails, the test train V150 was doing one of its “shots”, a super-high-speed test, on the East-Europe High Speed Line racetrack. This picture was taken at Km 201 of the line near the village of Foucaucourt-sur-Thabas.
The record was set on April 3, 2007, at 574,8 km/h with 31 KV in the catenary and a power of 19,6 MW (about 25 000 hp), for a total weight of 268 tonnes.
The train was the V150, a specially modified “POS” TGV, that had recently been built as set number 4402. The line was undergoing tests during the period between the end of its construction and its commercial opening.
The TGV 4402 was returned to standard single level configuration after the tests and served several years in this configuration.
Today, it does not really exist anymore. The motor cars are part of the TGV 723. Like other POS TGVs, it was transformed into a double deck “POS-Duplex” TGV, receiving the cars of a “Réseau-Duplex” TGV that in turn became a single-level unit. The engines of the new TGV 723 received a special livery celebrating the World Speed Record.
