Foca PF2B Year 1948 Double Test

This is a new "film d'essai" (test film) of my FOCA PF2B, a French range-finder 35mm camera manufactured in 1948, in order to test an optically clean Oplar 1:2.8 f=5cm normal lens (the lens of my Foca PF3L) compared to the Oplar 1:3.5 f=5cm that came with this early PF2B camera.

I noticed on the first trial film that the lens gave quite diffuse images resulting likely from a front lens surface with a lot a tiny cleaning marks. To see the difference with a late-period normal lens (60's) in perfect condition, the first 16 frames are done with the clean lens and the rest on the same scenes with the older one.

The camera was equipped was previously with the FOCA Universel finder and distance measured with a hand Laser telemeter.

The camera was loaded with an Folmapan Creative 200 36-exposure film. It was exposed for 160 ISO using an Autometer III Minolta lightmeter fitted with a 10° finder for selective measurements privileging the shadow areas. The Oplar lenses were equipped with either a generic 1A push-on 36mm protective filter or a Foca AUV 42mm filter with generic cylindrical shade hoods.

After exposure, the film was revealed using Adox Adonal (Agfa Rodinal) developper at dilution 1+25 and 20°C for 5min. The film was then digitalized using a Sony A7 body fitted to a Minolta Slide Duplicator installed on a Minolta Auto Bellows III with a lens Minolta Bellow Macro Rokkor 50mm f/3.5. I used here for the first time a new light LED source (NEEWER RGB61 Mini portable LED light). The RAW files obtained were processed without intermediate files in LR and edited to the final jpeg pictures.

All views of the film are presented in the dedicated album either in the printed framed versions and unframed full-size jpeg accompanied by some documentary smartphone Vivio Y76 color pictures.

About the camera :

This Foca PF2B is an early series (circa 1948) of the Foca PF2B 35mm range-finder camera appeared in 1947. The PF2B model of Foca has the 36mm screw mount of other Foca PF (PF standing for "Petit Format"). Foca camera's were constructed in France by the company "Optique & Precision de Levallois" (OPL) in the OPL factory of Chateaudun (Eure) starting from 1946. This factory still exists under the name of SAFRAN a French company producing aerospace devices and systems.

The camera came with a collapsible OPLAR lens 1:3.5 f=5cm and an ever-ready leather bag.
