Baldonnel/Casement~Co Dublin 25 March 2019

Commemorating the first East to West transatlantic flight from Baldonnel in 1928.

The aircraft to be used was a Junkers W.33 named Bremen, thus the name on the inscription. At 0538hrs on Thursday 12th April 1928, The Bremen took off bound for New York.

However due to adverse weather conditions, they would fall short of New York and landed on Greenly Island, situated between Labrador and Newfoundland in the Strait of Belle Isle in the Gulf of St. Lawrence. But the flight was a success, in being the first East to West transatlantic flight.
