365.17 digging in the dirt
we have this corner in our yard that's been neglected for the last ten years -- an old compost bin that never got turned or emptied, a collapsed wheelbarrow filled with dirt compacted over years, and piles of rubbish and rocks.
today i decided to get dirty. three hours later, the compost bin was disassembled, with the unexpected discovery of gorgeous dirt spread out to even out the corner. the wheelbarrow was emptied (you can see it behind me), and has since been moved to another part of the yard where i can fill it with annuals next spring.
my feet are FILTHY, my fingers are torn up, and i haven't felt this good in months.
next up: cleaning and painting the shed to match the house, then laying cobblestone pavers (which i bought at home depot today) as a base for our new compost tumbler (to complement the bin, which i thought was useless, but is in fact ready to be reassembled and used again -- score!).
