Street sweepers play an important role in maintaining the health and hygiene within cities especially in developing countries like India. In India however, the traditional culture has stigmatized street sweeping as a filthy and lowly occupation. I was fascinated by these folks who appear to work tirelessly all over India and saw them as anything but lowly. I saw this woman in a village and when I asked her if I could take her picture she said yes and in a few of the shots she gave the most fantastic smile but I thought it was this determined and defiant look that says the most.
