The ghost of a steam train echoes down my track

I'm sure Mr Weller won't mind me pinching his lyrics for a title.

This is what remains of the Taff Bargoed Joint Line to the west of Cwmbargoed. Opened in 1881 the line linked up with the Brecon & Merthyr Railway at Dowlais. It was closed west of Cwmbargoed in 1937. In 2013 a rail study group proposed extending the passenger rail network to Bedlinog via Nelson and Trelewis along the existing freight line from Ystrad Mynach to Cwmbargoed. Merthyr Tydfil Council and Caerphilly Council commissioned this study to examine the practicality / cost and business case implications of extending the proposed service further north to Dowlais Top to the northeast of Merthyr Tydfil.

It's presumably been filed for the time being....
