Awaiting disposal
Former Merseyrail Class 503 EMUs in the form of Driving Trailers 29271 & 28373 await scrapping at the old Alexandra Dock goods depot on 29th July 1985.
The class were gradually withdrawn from Wirral line services from June 1984 to March 1985 following introduction of the 507s and latterly, 508s.
A plan that has only recently been disclosed was to send a selection of 503s to work on the Ryde to Shanklin IOW railway to replace life expired units on the island - Unfortunately this didn't come to fruition!
Vic Berry had the contract to cut up these units on site and I can remember seeing a few of these moved here - presumably for ease of access for the lorry off the adjacent Dock Road.
