Huntcliff Fanhouse and a Shed
The structure to the left is a Guibal Fanhouse ("Guibal" taken from the name of its Belgian inventor). It was built in the 1870's to ventilate the ironstone drift mines on Huntcliff, in Cleveland. The building contained a 30 feet in diameter fan, powered originally by a steam engine and later by electric. The mine closed in 1906, but the building, minus the inner workings, remains and is a scheduled ancient monument. The building is situated one field away from the cliffs above the North Sea.
66510 passes by with the potash empties, bound for Boulby Carlin How mine on a lovely sunny April afternoon, Thursday 21.4.16.
