Seasoned Semaphores

Droitwich Spa retains it's eclectic mix of semaphore signals, including the fairly rare centre pivot lower quadrant bracket in the foreground. There is a similar set on Platforms 4/5 at Shrewsbury, and a single at Liskeard.

 

Droitwich lays over large brine deposits from which salt has been historically extracted. The brine fields are 10 times more salty than ordinary sea water, containing 2.5lbs of salt per gallon.
