Although I do not consider myself any kind of authority on cemeteries or gravestones/headstones and the traditions incorporated into their design, I have noticed that in the region surrounding Montrose, Colorado it is somewhat customary to record an abbreviated version of the deceased's biography on the stone itself.
This is actually the reverse side of this gravestone and includes tribute to the marraige and children born to this couple. Their religious faith and beloved dogs are shown, along with some sort of musical instrument and a railroad industrial scene (a place of employment?)
