Underground Uncompahgre #1

Still a fairly common sight in the Uncompahgre Valley of western Colorado, these underground storage "cellars" were used to keep potatoes, onions and other locally produced root crops in the early days of settlement. A surprising number still stand today and occasionally you see one "built" in the past few decades. Shavano Valley, west of Montrose, Colorado.
