Underground Uncompahgre #16d

Still a fairly common sight in the Uncompahgre Valley of western Colorado, these underground storage "cellars" were used to keep potatoes, onions and other locally produced root crops in the early days of settlement. A surprising number still stand today. This one is west of Montrose, Colorado in the Shavano Valley area.
