Morning Light - Sausalito, California
This past Thursday, I taught a private workshop in the San Francisco area. My student for the day, Mark Shaiken, had flown in from the Midwest to spend a few days in the city around his anniversary.
As we set up in Sausalito, a spot I had chosen after researching the tides and sunrise angles, I could tell that we had a chance at some color as the fog enveloped the Marin Headlands behind us. I took the opportunity to set up my camera for a few shots to get a feel for conditions and specifically to see how different filters would affect the scene as Mark wanted some instruction on his Singh-Ray filters.
As the sun had starting glowing a bit too harshly to the east, I noticed this transition of fog and clearer skies catching some late sunrise light. I used my Singh-Ray Vari-ND dialed to near max density to keep the exposure longer to help smooth the water. I angled my Singh-Ray reverse ND grad along the transition line of the fog and sky to help balance the light.
Mark, it was a pleasure to meet you and to have the opportunity to share some knowledge with you.
