"Algoma Sault" at Richardson's Main Elevator

In early 2018, Algoma Central Corporation took delivery of Algoma Sault, the second of two new Equinox-class self-unloading lake bulk carriers built at Yangzijiang Shipbuilding Group Limited, Jingjiang City, China. The vessel departed the shipyard on Feb. 3, 2018 and was expected to arrive in Canada in late March, making the ship available for service in the upcoming navigation season.

This is the Algoma Central’s third vessel named after Sault Ste. Marie, Ont. Her most recent predecessor, Algosoo, which entered service on the lakes in 1974, has been cut up for scrap in Port Colborne, Ont. An earlier Algosoo was scrapped in Spain in 1967.
