25 Cats and 25 Dogs - Part I

It's been a busy time and I haven't been around on Flickr much. I'm looking forward to catching up as best I can with what everyone has been doing.

 

As some of you know, I volunteer with my camera at the Winnipeg Humane Society. In the last little while I've had two separate photo shoots (one with a volunteer and another with someone who adopted a dog from WHS).

 

And there was the project to capture shots of 25 dogs and 25 cats.

 

The Winnipeg Humane Society just had their Bow-Wow Ball last night (Sept. 15). I was asked if I could capture 25 pictures of dogs and 25 pictures of cats which would be used as part of the centre piece on each table and displayed as a running slide show while the CEO was giving his speech.

 

How hard could it be?

 

Well, the first few attempts yielded a small number of shots because there were not many animals available for adoption (which normally is a good thing).

 

Then I tried another session with the cats, and with a helper we got through 18 cats in 2 hours. A separate session with the dogs was just as successful and the goal was hit.

 

It sure was an interesting project. With the cats, we were fighting to get their attention. With the dogs, I was fighting to divert their attention. Even got pee'd on a couple of times by 2 different dogs (I guess the excitement of a photo shoot was too much)

 

In the end, I was really happy to have been given the task and was proud of the results. I'll be posting a small sample of some of the shots I was really pleased with.
