Ranch in Coulee 6946 A

Cattle ranch in the Moses Coulee in Douglas County, Washington State.

Massive glacial floods carved out this canyon, probably sometime near the end of the last ice age, but geologists have not determined the exact age.

During the six or so mega floods that came through this canyon, the mesa in the photo was a gigantic waterfall, and the canyon floor here was the waterfall basin where silt deposits today support cornfields in the summer,

The nearby canyon road passes right through the rancher's yard, about 50 feet from the rancher's house, between his house and his nearby barns and outbuildings. I would have probably taken more photos, but didn't want to disturb his privacy.

For me, this ranch landscape is so dramatic it kind of reminds me of a John Ford Western.
