Glizzy's Hot Dogs

Glizzy’s, the hot dog shop on St. Marks Place in the East Village has suddenly closed after being open for only two months. When we first saw bright signage being installed for this storefront, we were very hopeful because many long-standing small businesses on this stretch of St Marks have closed in recent years including the original location of Trash & Vaudeville and St. Marks Comics (both have thankfully relocated), as well as Grassroots Tavern and Sounds. Sadly this shop which specialized in hot dogs with toppings such as smoked brisket with Mike’s Hot Honey, fried shallots & mapo sauce, and chili 🌶️ crisp, permanently closed according to the owner due to rising food costs and minimum wage increases as well for the fact that they did not receive “crazy buzz from the start”.

We always tell people that our ongoing project to document small businesses in New York City is a race against time due to the many factors stacked against the success of a small business but this closure is definitely for us the shortest amount of time that we have seen a business open and then close. Please let us know if any small businesses in your neighborhood are struggling recently and or recently closed as we are trying to help raise awareness of their importance through our photography.
