This is Dennis.
He is a Mod. Well he was at a Mod function. There is a bit of a cross over between various old style sub-cultures and Dennis may even consider himself a bit of Mod and a bit of a Rudy.
We meet in Camden. A shop called the Mod father had a charity fund raiser for stroke care. We chatted very briefly about music, scooters and subcultures we grew up with.
He looked the part and I thought he would be a good subject for my 100 strangers project as well as my general photography and as he was wearing a hat I thought he'd be a good candidate for practicing lighting & fill flash.
Strobist information: Canon speed light 430EX ll at 1/4 power with zoom set at 24mm. Held by a second person to camera left at chest height and 45 degrees to my model.
Daylight was poor, it had just clouded over and started to rain. We were under a shops awning; over head at about 12-15 feet with the flash pointing straight up rather than at my model Dennis.
Hahnel Tuff wireless triggers were used.
I initially had the flash power set at 1/2, took a test shot and Dennis was over exposed so I took the power down to 1/4. In the back of the camera I was happy with the images I had taken but viewing them at home I wonder if using an onmi-bounce would have given me a slightly softer and nicer light.
Again I have been very lucky with my model being very patient and accommodating.
I am emailing Dennis several photos including one with Norman Jay (MBE) who gate crashed our shoot.
Dennis, thank you for your time. I hope you like the images.
Tips, hints and constructive criticism is always welcome.
