Arthur R. Marshall Loxahatchee National Wildlife Refuge Second-Growth Cypress Cathedral

It is always difficult to capture that "bigness" feeling that one gets in the forest - there's so many trees in the way! But inside the ARM Loxahatchee NWR, this second-growth cypress forest had an opening I thought good for trying.

The original woods were felled for wood here over 60 years ago now, and the second-growth cypress are reaching near-complete in growing tall; from now on they will add diameter and rootmass.

The forest also is full of other species of SE FL swamp plants as well. And not one mosquito.
