St. Casimir

St. Casimir was the son of the king of Poland and he led an austere lifestyle, sleeping on the ground and fasting. His fasting weakened him and developed lung problems, likely tuberculosis, from which he died in his early 20's.

He was especially devoted to the Blessed Virgin, and sang a hymn to Mary so often it became known as the 'Hymn of Saint Casimir.' The sheet music he's holding may be a reference to this; I'm not sure how the melody of that song goes.

Casimir is one of the patron saints of Poland.
