"LEAVING OYSTER BAY"
The LIRR often had power shortages throughout it's diesel history. Often leasing equipment from different railroads such as the Bangor & Aroostook, Reading, and Delaware & Hudson, as well as from rebuilders/leasing companies such as Precision National Corp. The many leased locomotives added considerable interest when viewing the LIRR fleet, as the LIRR did not purchase an EMD product until the GP38s, in the MTA years. Here we see PNC GP7 1702 about to leave Oyster Bay. What is unusual here is that the LIRR FA Control Cab 611 might have had a cab signal failure, which has required a runaround move to be made to place the 1702 on the west end for the return trip to Jamaica.
This is an original slide taken by another photographer and is in my collection. It has been recently scanned, with color, and sharpness adjustments having been made. Time, location, and the name of the original photographer are as noted. These additional photos add to the series of “Classic” LIRR photos.
