Handelskade in Purple
The Handelskade quay in Willemstad has been called the most photographed waterfront cityscape in the Caribbean. It also has a place on UNESCO’s World Heritage List.
At one point in time it was one of the busiest trading ports of the New World. Not this night. The merchants were heading home early for Christmas Eve celebrations.
Are the colors weird? You bet! Last Holiday Season a new festival lighting scheme was used. All buildings were lit up with flood lights coloring them in all kinds of psychedelic colors.
A couple of weeks earlier I risked a first attempt at getting all these colors to play nice on one photograph. The result was very disappointing. No way this was going to work. Then I remembered Joe McNally always talking about using magenta filters to clean up mixed lighting skylines of New York. Do I really need to say the man is a genius?
