Hugs for Cows!
Large Animal Handling lab: today we learned how to do a physical exam of a cow (or any large animal), open her mouth (and then pass a stomach tube, or give oral meds with a bolus gun, or do an oral exam with your arm up to elbow in her mouth), listen to gut sounds ("pings" and rumen contractions), draw blood from the jugular and from the underside of the tail, how to give sub-cutaneous or intramuscular injections, stimulate her to urinate, and how to fit a halter. Lots of fun!
After I got home, I was wondering why the insides of my arms smelled so strongly of livestock. Duh! this is the evidence right here!
